The Paso Fino Horse reflects its Spanish heritage through its proud carriage, grace, disposition, elegance and smoothness of gait. Modern care and selective breeding have enhanced its beauty, refinement and well proportioned conformation that conveys strength and power without extreme muscling.
With the Paso Fino horses lively but cntrolled spirit, natural smooth gait and presence, responsive attitude, the Paso Fino is indeed, a rare and desirable equine partner for both showing and pleasure riding.
The gait of the Paso Fino horse is totally natural and normal exhibited from birth. It is an evenly spaced 4-beat lateral
gait with each four contacting the ground independently in a regular sequence at precise intervals creating a rapid, unbroken rhythm.
Executed perfectly, the four hoof beats are absolutely even in both cadence and impact. Footfall is same sequence as a natural equine walk. Left rear, left fore, right rear, right fore. Propulsion is primary from the hind limbs and the
horses motion is absorbed in its back and loins, resulting in equal smoothness and comfort for the rider.
The Paso Fino 4-beet lateral gaited horse are performed at three speeds, which are as described:
PASO FINO HORSE - CLASSIC FINO
This is by far the most exciting to watch or experience. The Paso Fino horse is extremely collected and balanced
with raid even 4-beat gaited footfall with little forward movement with stead and unbroken rhythm. These horses
perform in complete collection, with upright carriage and neck breaking at the poll to allow the head to be held almost on the vertical. The Paso Fino horses should be in excellent physical condition. Not all Paso Fino horses' can perform this and should always be trained by Professional Trainers'.
Paso Fino Horse - Cuarto
This is a ground covering gait that is ideal for pleasure, trails, and endurance riding. This is performed at a very fast walk or running walk. With the Cuarto the collection is mild and extension varies within the two styles (Pleasure and Performance). With the Performance Paso Fino horses' this is performed at a slower Cuarto, with a shorter stride and more rapid footfall. The Pleasure Paso Fino horss have a faster, more relaxed Cuarto. While less execution is expected, there is no loss of the Paso Fino smoothness or gait footfall pattern. The speed is performed by the Classic Fino horses, as well in the style of the Performance Paso Fino horse.
Paso Fino Horse - Largo
This is performed with great speed, as fast as a canter in many horses. The Largo is a speed form of the gait, with speeds up to 25 mile per hour. This speed is equivalent to a canter and in some cases a gallop. This is performed by both, Paso Fino, Performance and Pleasure horses. The hock action, rear end drive, and execution are stronger in the
Paso Fino Performance horses. With the Largo there must be obvious extension of stride from the horses Cuarto as well as the speed. The rider should appear virtually motionless, in the saddle, and there should be no perceptible up and down motion of the horses croup.
Paso Fino horses can execute other gaits natural to other horse breeds in addition to the Paso Fino gait. These are Flat walk which is smooth steady evenly spaced 4-beat gait, the Lope true, 3-beat gait, slow, cadence, smooth, straight on both leads, with no tendency to mix gaits. The Canter - Two 3-beat gait, straight on both leads, and unhurried with no tendence to mix gaits.
